For those of you who have been following these spiritual teachings, you are already familiar with the inner landscape of your own mind. Through practical application and observation, you know the nature of your thoughts and feelings. As you continue to cultivate this practice, you may have noticed a particular awareness dawning, a message about a significant event unfolding in our world and in the universe.
This understanding may come to you through your own spiritual intuition. For others, this message filters through social media channels like YouTube or Facebook, where many different voices are sharing their perspectives.
Some might encounter it in articles or newspapers. Still others receive these insights through more traditional means, such as from the culture of devalas (shrines dedicated to deities) or through practices like anjanam, a form of scrying or divination.
Simply put, you may have heard the phrase: “You are receiving messages from the universe.” While many people describe this phenomenon in various ways, these messages are not for everyone. They are meant for a select few.
Who Is Receiving the Call? The Universal Agent
These messages from the universe do not discriminate. There is no age limit; some receive them from childhood, while others begin to notice them in middle age, youth, or even later in life. There are no national or religious barriers; people from all walks of life, from every culture and faith, are receiving this call.
However, despite the diversity of the recipients, the core message is the same. It is leading everyone toward a single, unified understanding. You may already sense this truth. Perhaps you’ve heard it discussed on social media, or maybe you are experiencing it directly through your own spiritual practice.
You might have even learned about it from a fellow spiritual friend or guide. As I mentioned, this information is arriving through many different channels.
My purpose here is not to repeat what others have already said or to discuss the sensational aspects of these events. This teaching is different. I am not here to describe the cosmic drama itself, but to address you directly, you, who may be a universal agent sent from the cosmos.
The title of this article is a call to action: to begin your duties. I want to guide you on how to do this, to show you the path. This method has not been shared elsewhere, which is why I feel it is essential to offer it now.
The Spiritual Battlefield: Understanding the Forces at Play
To understand this, I ask you to listen with an open and neutral mind. In Buddhism, we call this state upekkhā, or equanimity. If you hold extremist views or are firmly attached to a particular dogma, this teaching may be difficult to hear.
But if you have been practicing observing the mind with neutrality, as we have encouraged, you will have the capacity to listen and understand.
In a previous teaching on Māra, the Buddhist personification of the forces that oppose enlightenment, I explained how this entity works to destroy our world. Māra sends his agents through various channels: corrupt rulers, false priests, and even within the Buddhist monastic order itself.
These agents work to distort the true teachings (the Dhamma), spread confusing ideas, and create spiritual ruin.
The harm they cause is immense, but by understanding their methods, you gain the ability to protect yourself. I will not repeat the details of that teaching here, as you can explore it for a deeper understanding. For now, it is enough to know that this spiritual conflict is real.
Seeing with Wisdom: Recognizing the State of the World
I want you to look at our country and the world, not just with your physical eyes, but with your inner wisdom. In Buddhism, we distinguish between ordinary intellect and a deeper knowing called paññā.
Use this paññā to see what is happening. Your eyes and ears gather information from the world, from the news on TV and radio, from social media feeds.
What do you see and hear?
You will find an overwhelming amount of content that weakens your mental state, that causes mental distress and pressure for everyone, from the youngest child to the oldest adult.
Ask yourself with this wisdom: Why has such an era arrived? Why are we experiencing this? Reflect on this from a place of neutrality. As I have always taught, do not cling to the idea that “it is exactly like this,” nor to the idea that “it is not like this.” Remain in the middle, in a state of upekkhā. From this balanced place, look at the damage being done to our country, our culture. Ask yourself:
Why is our nation being targeted in this way? What forces are at play? I will not name the human figures involved, as many people have different opinions. Instead, I will point to the ultimate source in the unseen realm: the being I have identified as Mara.
The Cosmic Counter-Force: An Army of Light is Born
Against the destructive influence of Mara’s forces and the invasions that have harmed our island of Sri Lanka, a powerful counterforce has emerged. You may have heard about this through the channels mentioned earlier,be it social media, ancient texts, spiritual insights, or a direct message from the universe.
A vast contingent of beings is being born into the human world to fight against Mara’s influence.
They have been born in the past, they are being born now, and more are on their way. Some are still children, some are teenagers, some are in their middle years. Some are still in the womb, while others are waiting to descend from other realms of existence, from the divine worlds of the devas and brahmas, the world of the nāgas (serpent beings), and the realms of the yakshas (nature spirits), kumbhāṇḍas, and gandhabbas.
These are the individuals I refer to in the title as the universal agent. This is the group of people who have come from the cosmos. The purpose of this teaching is to provide you with the practical tools to awaken this memory within yourself, to understand your role. While others may only describe the arrival of this group, I will show you how to remember who you are and begin your work.
The Lost Agents: The Challenge of Worldly Distractions
You, the person reading this, could be a universal agent. But it is also possible that you are not, and that is perfectly okay. Some are on a different journey through the cycle of rebirth, or saṃsāra. Do not feel disheartened. This understanding is for everyone. Some may be starting their spiritual journey in this life, while others have been cultivating it for many lifetimes. You could even be a universal agent who has not yet begun their duties.
Please do not feel sad thinking, “Oh, I am not doing anything like that.” By cultivating your own spirituality and following the Buddha’s teachings, you are already undertaking a profound task for your own journey. This applies to you no matter your background, you may be Muslim, Tamil, Catholic, or of any other religion or ethnicity. I speak with many people from different faiths who follow the Buddha’s path because it resonates with them practically.
However, it must be said that a great number of these agents from the universe have been born into the Sinhala ethnicity and the Buddhist religion. But many of these individuals have gone astray. They have become so lost that, to put it simply, they do not even observe the Pañcasīla, the five basic precepts of ethical conduct: to refrain from killing, stealing, sexual misconduct, lying, and intoxication.
Having been born into the human world, they have become entangled in sensual defilements, or kilesas. Men chase after women, women after men, breaking up families. They chase after money, become addicted to alcohol and drugs, and engage in all kinds of unwholesome actions. These agents from the universe, who are vessels of immense merit, are living in a state of ruin.
Divine Guidance and Waking Up to Your Purpose
This teaching is intended to show you how to bring forth your accumulated merit, your spiritual perfections or pāramitā. Even the great Bodhisattvas, beings destined for Buddhahood, faced such trials. If you have read the Jātaka tales, the stories of the Buddha’s previous lives, you know that even the Bodhisattva who would become Siddhartha Gautama faced moments of weakness before finding his way back to the right path.
This is true for both men and women. A person might be engaged in terrible actions, breaking all five precepts, being an alcoholic, engaging in sexual misconduct, yet they could still be a universal agent. This message is for everyone: for those living unwholesome lives, for those living wholesome lives, and for everyone in between. If you apply what I am about to share, your life will begin to change.
Many of these agents face various mishaps and obstacles, which are often orchestrated to guide them. The unseen beings I mentioned earlier, the guardians from the divine realms who are not of this world, are watching over you. A host of deities, or devas and brahmas, are responsible for you.
They will send you thoughts to control you, to keep you from chasing too intensely after sensual pleasures or money.
They work to transform you into a sincere, selfless teacher with a unique vision. Slowly, they guide you toward your true calling. If you stray toward materialism, they will give you lessons,punishments of a sort,to correct your course until you are no longer attached to money and can serve others from a place of pure experience and sincerity. This is how you will realize what your duty is. They will not spell it out for you.
The Path of Humility and Trusting the Process
Even for those who have contact with the unseen world, these guardian beings may not answer direct questions. They remain silent because they have access to all your files,your past, your future, your entire story. They know everything.
Therefore, they do not need to explain; they simply guide you to the right place at the right time. This is what the unseen world does for a visiting universal agent.
However, it is also possible for an agent who has come on a mission to experience suffering due to their own unwholesome actions, or akusala kamma. For those who are not a universal agent, please do not misapply this teaching. Continue on your own righteous journey with equanimity, practicing the path the Buddha taught.
This message is primarily for the agents, but I caution you: do not develop a special kind of pride or arrogance, what we call māna, thinking, “I am a universal agent.”
If you do, the guardian beings will arrange lessons to destroy that conceit and make you humble. Their goal is to shape you into a person of great knowledge and understanding who can serve this country, this world, and all its people, whether through the path of monasticism, education, or any other field, in this country or abroad. They will gradually control events to bring you to the right place when the time is right.
How to Begin Your Duties: A Practical Guide
So, here is the practical part. This is how you begin. Start by reflecting deeply. Ask yourself: Who am I? Why did I come here? What am I supposed to do? How do I build my character? How do I move forward on this journey?
As you contemplate these questions, your path will become clear. If you are someone who does not keep the Five Precepts (Pañcasīla), begin to observe them. If you do not pay homage to the Buddha, begin to chant and venerate. Practice mettā bhāvanā, (loving-kindness meditation). Most importantly, learn to watch your mind.
When you do this, you will be transformed at a speed you cannot imagine. Within a year, even within two or three months, your mind will change. There are people who have experienced this. If you are one of them, I encourage you to share your experience in a comment to help others understand.
This is the process. By turning your thoughts inward, toward wisdom (paññā) and intelligence, you invite help. The guardian beings, be they a yakkha, a nāga, a powerful deity, or a brahma, will start to assist you. I cannot say who your specific guardian is, but they will come to your aid, offering their full protection to guide you on the right path.
The Journey Forward and a Final Blessing
As you engage in this practice and reflection, you will begin to understand your duties. You may only realize the nature of your mission while you are already performing it, thinking, “Ah, so this is the duty I came here for.” The time for the full mission has not yet arrived. This current period is about preparation and alignment. Some agents have already begun parts of their duties, and you can recognize them.
They are on YouTube, in books, and performing various services in society. They are the ones who work sincerely, without chasing money or exploiting the vulnerable women and men who come to them for help. They are men and women of all ages, races, and religions who act without expecting worldly gain.
I have shared many things, but there is much more that cannot be said now. You would not be able to bear it or understand it yet. If I were to tell you everything, it would create a storm of questions and lead you to cling to various views, becoming extremist. A time will come when you can understand these deeper truths. Until then, I cannot say more. What I have given you is the key to begin your duties as a universal agent.
Having listened to this teaching, may you, whether you are a universal agent or not, be blessed with the powerful energy of the Triple Gem: the Buddha, the Dhamma, and the Sangha. If you are an agent, may you use this blessing to reflect wisely, understand your role, and act upon it. And for those who are not, may you also find the strength to do good in your own way. With these blessings, I conclude this teaching.
