May the blessings of the Triple Gem be with you all!
Today, through our spiritual exploration, we will clarify how we can feel the awakening of universal energy and Kundalini energy. As we venture deeper into our spiritual journey, there are distinct ways these energies make themselves known. This article aims to explain these experiences based on direct, practical insights.
However, before we proceed, I must offer a gentle word of caution. As you read about these signs, please do not allow them to foster a sense of pride or conceit, a state known in Buddhism as mānya. It is unskillful to think, “Ah, this is happening to me, so my Kundalini must be awakened.” Such thoughts can become an obstacle, a form of ego that hinders your meditative progress and spiritual path.
These experiences may or may not happen to you. One person’s journey is not the same as another’s. Therefore, read this as a form of knowledge, but do not become attached to it or create problems for yourself. The ultimate goal is to advance our spiritual practice, so we must be willing to let go of even this knowledge after understanding it. Please hold this advice in your heart as you continue.

Harnessing Mind Power: The Three Resolutions to Welcome Universal Energy
Many of these insights come from our own practical experiences with universal energy and Kundalini, as well as the experiences of those who walk this spiritual path with us. Our online platform offers several practical meditation programs, including the ‘Third Eye Practical Meditation Program‘ and the ‘To the Brahma Worlds Practical Meditation Program.‘ Those who have followed either of these paths may have already encountered the phenomena we will discuss. But again, it’s possible some have not, and that is perfectly fine.
To begin attracting this energy, we have previously discussed three powerful resolutions, or adhiṭṭhāna, to make before meditation:
- “May I receive all the subtle energies existing in the universe.”
- “May all the skills I have practiced and perfected throughout my past lives in saṃsāra be restored to me.”
- “May all the latent energies within me become fully activated once more.”
These resolutions are not mere thoughts; they are expressions of your mind’s power, or chitta shaktiya. When you consistently make these resolutions, you release this mental energy into the universe. It radiates into your environment, into nature, into the sky, and throughout the entire cosmos. As we develop our concentration through meditation (samatha bhāvanā), we become receptive to the energies the universe sends back. These gifts are what we call universal energy.
Like Invisible Waves: How Universal Energy Enters the Body
This universal energy is much like the waves used for phones or television. We cannot see the signal that connects one phone to another, or the frequency that brings a channel to our screen, yet we know with certainty that a powerful energy is present. The universal energy is similar. To the ordinary eye, it is invisible. However, a person with a developed mind, such as someone who has opened their Third Eye, can perceive these energies. They can see them as rays of different colors (red, yellow, blue, gold, and countless others). For those who cannot see them, there are ways to feel them.
As you meditate consistently while holding the three resolutions, the universal energy will begin to flow into you. This can happen after one session, or after many. It enters the body through several key points:
- The crown of the head
- The center of the forehead
- The tips of the fingers on both hands
- The soles of the feet and the tips of the toes
This energy flows into your body to nurture you, combining with your own latent energies to help you develop your mind and deepen your concentration.

What Does Universal Energy Feel Like? Common Signs and Sensations
When this universal energy begins to flow, you may experience a variety of distinct physical sensations. For some, it feels like a gentle electric current moving through the body. Others feel a sensation like a cool breeze or wind moving up from their feet. You might feel a tingling in your fingertips, as if being pricked by tiny needles, or a sensation like ants crawling on your skin. It can manifest as an intense coolness or, conversely, a feeling of warmth.
As this energy fills you, your body may begin to feel heavy. It’s like filling a barrel completely with water; your body is being filled to capacity with universal energy. Your shoulders might feel heavy, your knees might feel heavy, and your palms might feel heavy. Your entire body can feel weighted down. This is a sign that your body has received the energy and is now fully charged. When you feel this, you understand that it is time to deepen your meditation.
A Practical Test: How to Feel the Energy Between Your Hands
For those who cannot see the energy, there is a simple test you can perform. When you feel the heaviness in your arms and the tingling or current-like sensations in your fingers, turn your palms to face each other. Hold them a short distance apart. You may begin to feel a strange oscillation or a dense presence between your hands. It can feel like a gentle pressure, as if you are holding a magnet in each hand with the same poles facing each other, creating a cushion of resistance. This is a sign that universal energy has entered your body.
This is just a small test; it does not signify the attainment of great power. Developing true mental power, or chitta shaktiya, to a high degree depends on one’s karmic history from past lives, the merit, virtues, and meditative practice accumulated over time. Some can develop these abilities quickly, while for others it takes longer. This test is simply a practical way to become aware of the energy’s presence.

Spontaneous Movements: When Universal Energy Guides the Body
Another phenomenon that can occur when universal energy is received is the spontaneous movement of the body. Your neck may begin to turn on its own, or your arms and legs may start to move without your conscious command. We have discussed this in a separate teaching called Universal Spiritual Exercises.
These are exercises initiated by the energy itself. Based on our practical experience, we have engaged in these activities for hours at a time. For you, it might be half an hour or an hour. This happens to some but not all practitioners, so do not be alarmed or worried if it occurs, and do not worry if it doesn’t. It is simply another way the energy can manifest.
The Awakening Within: An Introduction to Kundalini and the Seven Chakras
Now, let us discuss Kundalini energy, or Kundalini Shakthiya. What is it?
It is a powerful energy that is fundamentally our own mind-energy, our chitta shaktiya. Both universal energy and Kundalini are gifts from the universe, given to us because we are trying to walk a different path: a path away from sensual indulgence and towards a higher plane of existence. We should accept these gifts gratefully but without attachment, always using them to develop the mind further.
Kundalini and universal energy are like brothers. They are two words, but they describe one interconnected process. The universal energy must arrive first to awaken the Kundalini energy. As many of you know from your own research in books or online, ancient yogis and sages described seven energy centers in the body, known as chakras. These run from the base of the spine to the crown of the head:
- Mūlādhāra (Root Chakra)
- Svādhiṣṭhāna (Sacral Chakra)
- Maṇipūra (Solar Plexus Chakra)
- Anāhata (Heart Chakra)
- Viśuddhi (Throat Chakra)
- Ājñā (Third Eye Chakra)
- Sahasrāra (Crown Chakra)
The awakening of these chakras is said to unlock various abilities.

The Buddha’s Perspective: How This Aligns with Pañca-abhiññā
It is important to note, as I have mentioned before, that words like ‘Kundalini,’ ‘chakra,’ or ‘universal energy‘ are not found in the Theravada Buddhist scriptures. The Buddha did not use this terminology. However, the Buddha possessed these energies and abilities to a degree unmatched by anyone in the world. He simply described them differently. In the Abhidhamma Pitaka (the basket of higher teachings), he explained them under the term Pañca-abhiññā, the Five Higher Knowledges or supernormal powers.
These are all just words to describe a reality. The Buddha gave us a concise framework with Pañca-abhiññā. If you wish to learn more, you can search for ‘Pañca-abhiññā Vīthi’ in the Abhidhamma texts or read the books on Abhidhamma by the venerable Sri Lankan monk, Rerukane Chandavimala Nayaka Thero, such as the ‘Abhidharma Chandrika‘ or ‘Abhidharma Pradeepika.‘
Signs of Kundalini Awakening: From Spinal Pressure to Symbolic Dreams
When Kundalini energy begins to awaken through the flow of universal energy, it also has its own set of signs. The very first phenomenon for most people is a sensation at the base of the spine, where the first chakra is located. It can feel like a knot, a ball, or a feeling of being tightly constricted. Some mistake it for back pain from sitting in meditation, but it is different, it’s the awakening of the chakras.
This feeling of pressure can then appear at different points along the spine. You might feel it in the middle of your back, near your neck, or at the very crown of your head. For some, it feels as if someone is pressing firmly on these spots with their thumb. It’s possible to feel this pressure at one, three, or even all seven points along the spinal column. The experience varies from person to person, and some may not feel it at all.
Another powerful sign can appear in dreams. You might dream of two cobras entering your body through the soles of your feet, spiraling up your spine, and reaching the crown of your head, where they spread their hoods. This is not a frightening dream, but a profound message. It is an indication from your own spiritual potential that you are ready to develop further. It is a call to deepen your meditation practice. This is very different from a dream of being chased by a snake; this is a symbolic dream related to the awakening of this sacred energy.

The Final Message: Forget the Signs, Embrace the Path
Having understood all these points, the final and most important task is to develop your spiritual life from here on. The true purpose is to cultivate your meditation. In fact, now that you have this knowledge, my advice is the same as it was in the beginning: forget it all. This teaching is a tool, but a tool is useless if you don’t use it. Just reading or listening is not enough. You must put it into practice.
Everything taught on this platform is practical, based on my own direct experiences and the experiences of those meditating with me, not limited by books. For these teachings to benefit you, you must engage with them practically, day after day. Otherwise, they are just words heard in one ear and gone out the other. Take this understanding and use it to walk your spiritual path.
I have faith that you will develop your spiritual energies. I will conclude this teaching now. May the power of the Buddha, Dhamma, and Sangha bless you. May all your latent abilities grow, may you receive the universal energy, and may you gain the ability, courage, effort, and perseverance to develop your spiritual life.
