May the blessings of the Triple Gem be with you all!

Welcome. Today, we will explore a concern that many of you bring to me: the struggle with negative influences. These can be challenges from the world we see, like difficulties with other people, or from the world we don’t see, what we might call unseen forces or non-human influences. Sometimes, these energies can feel like curses or directed ill-will, known in our culture as Anavina Kodivina. These pressures can disrupt our lives and our peace of mind.

In this article, I will share two practical meditation techniques that can provide profound spiritual protection. One practice helps to balance your environment, and the other builds your own mental fortitude, dissolving the very root of fear. These methods are not just theoretical; they are practical tools I have shared before, such as in teachings on loving-kindness meditation and specific solutions for disturbances in the home.

Today, we will explore a unique and powerful way to engage with these practices. If you approach them with sincerity, I can say with one hundred percent certainty that you will experience the results for yourself. You don’t have to simply believe it; you can feel the change.

The Power Within You: An Alternative to External Fixes

Many people seek external help when they feel overwhelmed by these issues, asking for spiritual interventions to clear their homes of negative energy or resolve internal conflicts. While their distress is real, and sometimes mental struggles are indeed influenced by unseen forces, my time and spiritual focus are limited. It is often not possible for me to help everyone individually.

That is why I am so eager to share these methods with you. They empower you to resolve these issues for yourself. If you practice with dedication, you will find these are the correct and most effective ways. Over time, you will realize their success. This means you won’t need to spend large sums of money on individuals who perform expensive rituals or esoteric rites. You have the power to solve these problems yourself.

Think of it this way: if your own head is on fire, you must be the one to put it out. The intensity of your own problem will create the necessary determination to find a solution. We are sharing this because it is absolutely possible. We have seen these methods yield one hundred percent positive results, and that is why we offer them to you with such confidence.

Understanding the Nature of Unseen Influences

These unseen forces can create many kinds of trouble, obstacles, and suffering. They can trigger or worsen mental health issues, create chaos in family life, and sabotage your spiritual progress. We have even observed cases where external beings, like a yaksha (a male nature spirit) or yakshani (a female nature spirit), or even a ghost, can amplify a person’s natural sensual desire, pushing their lustful thoughts to an extreme level. Likewise, some people experience overwhelming anger that feels beyond their own, intensified by an outside influence.

These teachings are for anyone experiencing such issues. This includes not only those troubled by non-human beings but also those facing challenges from misguided deities with wrong views, or even from obstructive forces we call Māras. Furthermore, if you feel you are the target of a curse or hex, these practices are invaluable. They offer a one hundred percent reliable way to resolve these problems. I say this again and again because these methods are born from direct, practical experience and proven results.

Practice One (Morning): Radiating Loving-Kindness in Your Space

The first meditation practice should be done early in the morning, as soon as you wake up. This is a form of Mettā Bhāvanā, or loving-kindness meditation, which we have discussed before in the context of radiating goodwill to all ten directions.

However, for this specific purpose of spiritual protection, you will focus this meditation only on your immediate environment. If you live in a house, concentrate on the boundaries of your home and your land. Within this space, there are seen beings (your family) and unseen beings. These include everything from the smallest insects to any non-human entities present.

Direct your mind to this defined area, your home and your property. For at least twenty minutes, and ideally for 30, 45, or even 60 minutes, radiate thoughts of loving-kindness. It doesn’t matter if your ‘third eye’ is open or not; use your mind to fill your home with these intentions:

“May all beings within this home, seen and unseen, be free from hatred. May they be free from anger. May they be free from jealousy. May they live in peace and happiness. May they be free from suffering. May they be healthy. May they be well. May they realize the ultimate peace of Nibbāna.”

If you are a monk in a monastery or a forest hermitage, you would focus on the temple grounds or the forest area where you meditate. The key is to concentrate the energy where the problem exists. As you do this consistently over time, the power of any negative, unseen beings, be they misguided deities, spirits, or ghosts, will begin to diminish and weaken.

After saturating your immediate environment, you can then extend this loving-kindness to all ten directions, but prioritize the space where you need spiritual protection the most. Be patient, and the results will surely come.

Practice Two (Evening): Strengthening the Mind with Buddha’s Qualities

The second practice is for the evening, to be done before you go to sleep. This meditation strengthens your mind and eliminates fear. It is a practice of Buddhānussati, the recollection of the qualities of the Buddha. To begin, you can reflect on one of the nine supreme qualities of the Buddha. For example, you might focus on the quality of ‘Buddho’ (the Awakened One) or ‘Sammā Sambuddho’ (the Perfectly Self-Awakened One). You can easily find the meanings of these nine qualities in books or online.

There are several ways to practice this:

  • Focus on a single quality: Choose one quality and hold its meaning in your mind, contemplating it deeply.
  • Recite the Itipiso Gāthā: While visualizing an image of the Buddha in your mind, you can slowly and mindfully recite the chant that describes his qualities, known as the Itipiso Gāthā. Focus your attention between your eyebrows, at the center of your forehead, or on the line from the middle of your nose to your forehead as you recite.

It is best to do this practice sitting in front of your home’s Buddha shrine. If you don’t have one, sitting on your bed or on the floor is perfectly fine. The goal is to connect with the living qualities that the Buddha represents. This practice powerfully strengthens your mind’s energy, builds concentration, and brings the mind to a state of calm unity. With time, this mental fortitude begins to dissolve the influence of unseen forces and even break down the effects of curses and ill-will.

Navigating the Path: When Things Seem to Get Worse

Practice this second meditation for at least thirty minutes before sleep. As you begin these two daily practices, you might notice a change on the very first day, with more clarity emerging after two or three days. However, for some people, the problems might seem to increase at first. Do not be foolish or ignorant and stop the practice! The obstacles may intensify because the negative forces are resisting your efforts.

You might notice sudden arguments with your spouse, trouble with your children, or unexpected financial stress. These are often barriers created by unseen forces to make you stop your meditations. Know this, and continue without fear. When you persist, the resistance will eventually break, and the problems will begin to subside for good.

Alongside these two meditations, continue with other supportive practices. If you can, chant protective verses, known as pirit, morning and evening, or at least once a day. If you have been following my other teachings on resolving non-human issues, you will know I shared four key practices. As you are now doing the loving-kindness meditation, be sure to continue the other three as well. By combining all five, you create a powerful field of spiritual protection that strengthens your mind and ensures your success.

The Far-Reaching Benefits of Inner Cultivation

These practices bring benefits that extend far beyond just spiritual protection. If you feel that an external force is amplifying your sensual desire or anger, these two meditations will weaken that influence, leaving you to deal only with your own mind’s tendencies. Your own greed and anger can then be managed through mindfulness practices, such as those taught in our series on establishing mindfulness (Vipassanā), or calmed through other concentration techniques (Samatha).

The same applies to anger. If an external energy is sending out rays that intensify your irritation, these practices will neutralize them. You are then left with your own anger, which you have the power to overcome through mindfulness and meditation. This cultivation of a strong mind and self-confidence is a direct result of recollecting the Buddha’s supreme qualities.

Furthermore, if your mind has struggled to settle down or achieve deep states of concentration, what we call Samādhi, or meditative absorption, known as Jhāna, it may have been due to unseen interferences. Whether you are Buddhist or not, regardless of your age, race, or religion, if you engage in these practices without narrow-mindedness, you will find these obstacles dissolving. Your mind will naturally become calm. You may begin to experience signs of concentration like inner lights, and entering deep meditative states will become much easier.

Healing for Mind, Body, and Life

Any physical ailments caused by unseen forces, such as heaviness in the head, headaches, or body pains, will be resolved through these meditations. Please remember, this is not a substitute for medical treatment for genuine, internal physical diseases. You must see a doctor for those.

However, developing mental strength gives you the resilience to endure physical illness without falling into mental distress. And for illnesses specifically caused or worsened by negative energies, these practices are one hundred percent effective. The influence weakens, and the body begins to heal. Sometimes, unseen forces can even block the effectiveness of medicine from a skilled doctor. By clearing away that interference, the medicine can finally work, and you can recover.

This is why these practices can lead to profound states of meditative absorption, or Jhāna. After radiating loving-kindness in the morning, you can seamlessly transition into your regular concentration practice and enter deep states of calm. Similarly, the recollection of the Buddha at night can itself lead to the first and second Jhānas, as a natural joy and tranquility arise in a mind that has realized these profound qualities firsthand.

The benefits are numerous, as described in the Buddhist text, the Mettānisamsa Sutta, which lists eleven advantages of loving-kindness meditation. You will sleep well and wake easily. You will wake up feeling refreshed and energized. The constant feeling of physical and mental heaviness that often accompanies these issues will gradually disappear. You will feel stronger and more mentally resilient than ever before.

A Tool for Everyone: From Students to Families

For those with genuine internal illnesses, this practice is still invaluable for building the mental fortitude to face health challenges without breaking down. The change will be undeniable.

These methods are also wonderful for students. If you face exam stress, bullying, or difficulties at school or university, you can apply the loving-kindness meditation to that environment. Radiate goodwill towards your school, your classroom, your teachers, and even those who trouble you. This, combined with the mind-strengthening practice, can create a remarkable shift.

It helps to subdue the five mental hindrances, sensual desire, ill-will, dullness, restlessness, and doubt, which are known in Buddhism as the Nīvaraṇa. By calming these, your memory and ability to focus on your studies for longer periods will significantly improve.

For anyone wishing to study the Buddha’s teachings, known as the Dhamma, and live a more wholesome life, these practices clear the path. They give you the strength to handle any negativity sent your way without resorting to costly external remedies. You develop the capacity to dismantle these issues with your own mind. Within your family, you will notice a change.

If there was conflict and argument, after a few weeks or a month of continuous practice, a new harmony will emerge. Family members will become more understanding and receptive to you. They will begin to trust you and value what you say. A profound transformation can occur, all stemming from these morning and evening practices.

The Wisdom of Patience

A final, crucial piece of advice: do not practice with expectations, and do not expect instant results. Many people want everything immediately. They practice a new meditation for a day or two and then become discouraged when they don’t see a dramatic outcome. It does not work that way. Do not set a timeline for results. Simply commit to the training itself. Focus on doing the practice consistently and correctly. If you do this, you will absolutely be able to achieve the peace and spiritual protection you seek.

I have now shared everything you need to begin. We will continue to offer practical teachings for practical problems in the future. For today, we will conclude here. Through the power of the Triple Gem, the Buddha, the Dhamma, and the Sangha, may you all have the strength to practice these instructions properly and realize their benefits for yourselves.
