Today, through our spiritual teachings, I wish to address a question several people have asked: Do You Need to Awaken Chakras One by One? This is a common point of confusion for many who are beginning their spiritual journey, and I would like to offer some clarity based on direct, practical experience.

In our community, we have introduced two primary meditation methods to help you develop your spiritual path. The first is the practical Third Eye meditation. For those who found it challenging to get results with that method, we later introduced the practical meditation method for reaching the Brahma worlds. Both of these paths are designed to cultivate your inner spiritual life.

Do You Need to Awaken Chakras One by One A Guide to Chakra Activation – A Common Question on the Path of Spiritual Development

The Focus Point: Why the Forehead?

In both meditation techniques, I have taught a method to unify the mind by focusing it on a single point. The primary instruction is to concentrate your awareness on the middle of your forehead or the space between your eyebrows. I have explained that you can find any point along the vertical line from the bridge of your nose to the center of your forehead that feels comfortable for you, and to hold your attention there.

Those who are familiar with the chakra system, from the root chakra, or Muladhara, at the base of the spine to the crown chakra, or Sahasrara, at the top of the head, know that a significant energy center exists in this area of the forehead. This is often called the Third Eye, or Ajna chakra.

This leads to the question: “By focusing here, are we only activating the Third Eye chakra? What about the other chakras? Do they remain unopened?”

This is a very important and practical question that deserves a clear answer.

The True Goal: Unifying the Mind, Not Just Activating Chakras

To answer this, we must look at the purpose of meditation. The teachings I share are based on practical, lived experience, and many people are already experiencing the results of these methods. We use meditation techniques to develop and unify the mind. The goal is to achieve a state of deep concentration, known in Buddhism as Samadhi. This profound mental stillness is the gateway to developing higher mental states, known as Jhanas, as well as various psychic or spiritual abilities. It is also the path to achieving deep and lasting mental peace.

To reach these states, we must begin by cultivating Samadhi. Just starting to focus the mind doesn’t instantly create this state. For some, it may arise quickly due to diligence in this life or because of practices from past lives, which we call samsara habits. For others, it takes time and consistent practice. Once a degree of Samadhi arises, we then work to develop it further.

A Practical Tool: Why the Forehead is an Effective Anchor

So, does focusing on the space between the eyebrows only result in the chakra activation of the Third Eye? Based on my direct experience, the answer is no. This is a misunderstanding of how the process works.

I know, from having awakened this energy myself, that this method is an incredibly easy way to unify the mind. Someone might ask, ‘How is that possible?‘ Let’s consider it practically. Find the easiest way for you to focus your mind. For many, one of the easiest methods is the one taught by the Buddha himself: mindfulness of breath, or Anapanasati. In my experience, the second easiest method is the one I have taught: focusing on the center of the forehead. It is a highly effective anchor for our attention.

Now, if you want to pursue individual chakra activation, try this for yourself. Is it easy to hold your mind at the very base of your spine, the location of the root chakra (Muladhara)? Is it comfortable to keep your focus there? For most people, it is very difficult. If you can do it easily, then by all means, continue.

But based on my practical experience, it is an extremely challenging task. We choose a physical location like the forehead as a tool or a focal point only until our mind becomes concentrated. This is the key. Whether it’s the breath in Anapanasati or the spot on the forehead in Third Eye meditation, these are simply steppingstones.

Moving Beyond the Anchor: The Natural Progression of Meditation

Those who follow insight meditation, known as Vipassana, see this process one way. Those who follow tranquility meditation, or Samatha, which includes practices like Third Eye meditation, see it another way. But in both cases, the initial object of focus, be it the breath or the forehead, is only needed to reach a certain stage.

Once your mind is unified and you begin to progress, you no longer need to keep looking at the forehead. In the Third Eye method, you move on to observing the light signs, or nimittas, that appear. In the meditation for reaching the Brahma worlds, once you enter a Jhana, you no longer need to focus on the forehead. You move on to the next steps. The initial object has served its purpose.

The Pitfall of Stagnation: Why You Shouldn’t Chase Chakras One by One

The point to understand is this: there is no need to go looking at each chakra one by one, trying to concentrate on them individually. There is no need to focus on the crown of the head to activate the Sahasrara chakra. Once you have reached a result, a new stage of practice, there is no need to linger at the starting point. This is the reason why many people get stuck in their meditation practice today. They remain stagnant in one place because they lack a clear understanding of the path’s progression.

Therefore, the idea that you must individually focus on and awaken the seven chakras, Muladhara, Svadhisthana, Manipura, Anahata, Vishuddha, Ajna, and Sahasrara, is, in my practical experience, a falsehood. There is simply no need to do it that way. In fact, it is an inefficient and difficult path.

The Natural Unfolding: How Holistic Chakra Activation Occurs

So how does a full chakra activation happen?

It happens naturally and spontaneously. As you deepen your concentration, spiritual abilities that you have cultivated in past lives, or what we call samsaric habits, begin to emerge. The universal energy system also supports this process. We must simply go with the flow. As the saying goes, we must ‘swat the fly in the direction it is going.‘

When we begin to meditate, the abilities and states of Jhana we practiced in past lives will often be the first to reappear. We should focus on mastering these first. Once these are well-practiced and fully under our control, we can then begin to cultivate new Jhanas and abilities that we haven’t yet developed.

One System, One Flow: The Interconnectedness of Your Energy Body

The entire chakra system is like a network of pipes. If you activate it from one key point in our practice, the forehead, all the other chakras begin to awaken and function. They are all interconnected. Our entire nervous system, including what modern science calls the pineal gland, is linked to this central point of the Third Eye. The whole system is connected.

When you begin to meditate using our methods, the parts of your energy system and the chakras that are ready to awaken, based on your past-life conditioning, will naturally come online. This is the organic process of chakra activation. From there, you continue to cultivate the rest. There is no need to go back and focus on the Muladhara or Svadhisthana chakras individually. The system awakens as one.

Spiritual Abilities and Strong Determination (Adhittana)

Ancient sages in India and Sri Lanka have long associated different spiritual abilities with specific chakras. You may have read about this in books or online. If not, I encourage you to read and expand your knowledge. However, these abilities are not awakened by focusing on their corresponding chakras one by one.

Let me give you an example.

Imagine a person who has attained four of the five higher knowledges: the ability to read minds, see past lives, communicate with unseen beings, and the divine eye (clairvoyance or the Third Eye). The only ability they lack is Iddhi, or psychokinesis.

To gain this, the Buddha’s teachings in the scriptures, like the Abhidhamma, explain that one must enter a state of Jhana and make a strong determination, an Adhittana, to obtain that specific power. Over time, the universe provides the path and the technique for it to develop. This happens through resolution from a state of deep concentration, not by focusing on a specific ‘iddhi chakra.’

A Practical Example: How Abilities Emerge Naturally

Let’s bring this back to our main topic. Consider a person practicing our Third Eye meditation. After some time, they naturally develop the ability to read the minds of others. The ancient sages associate this ability with a different chakra, not the Third Eye. Now, let me ask you a question: Did that person gain this ability by focusing on that other chakra? No. Their samsaric habits made them ripe for that ability to emerge. It awakened on its own as a result of their unified concentration.

They did not focus on that other chakra, yet the ability arose. And if they were to then check with their Third Eye, they would see that the corresponding chakra is indeed activated and developed. This is how the process works for all spiritual abilities and all states of Jhana. It is driven by your past conditioning and your present determination from a place of deep Samadhi.

It is a trap to go from chakra to chakra, spending a week on each one. If you do this, you will never unify your mind enough to reach the next step. You will just be jumping from one focus point to another, forever staying in the same place. It is a futile effort.

Conclusion: The Direct Path to Holistic Awakening

My sincere advice is this: choose one chakra, and the center of the forehead is an excellent and effective one, and focus your mind there. When a sign of progress appears, like a light, or when you attain a state of Jhana, move forward with that. Follow that new stage. I know with 100% certainty that this is the path that leads to results, because I have the experience to support it.

Everything taught through our spiritual channels is practical. I encourage you to experience these truths for yourself. A universal truth is practical; it can be experienced, and no one can change it. Therefore, the simple and short answer is that there is no need for individual chakra activation. You do not need different sound clips for each one. Once you open the door through one point and step through to the next stage, the rest of the chakras will begin to awaken as a natural consequence. Keep moving forward on your path.

As you absorb these points and understand the truth about whether to awaken chakras separately, we conclude today’s teaching. May you all be able to gain a clear understanding of this matter.

May you receive the blessings of the Triple Gem: the Buddha, the Dhamma, and the Sangha.
