Categories: Third Eye: Practical Meditation
May the blessings of the Triple Gem be with you all!
Welcome. This article is dedicated to you, the spiritual practitioner who has been following our practical third eye meditation program and has successfully awakened this inner faculty. This teaching is for those who have cultivated what is known in the Buddhist texts as Dibba Cakkhu, or the ‘divine eye’, a form of higher psychic ability.
As part of our program, we have guided you to focus your meditation on sacred Sri Lankan sites like the Ruwanwelisaya Stupa, the rock fortress of Sigiriya, and the holy mountain of Sri Pada (Adam’s Peak), as well as to perceive unseen realms. Many of you are now able to make a firm resolution and see these places, and you are continuing to train this ability. This teaching is specifically for those of you who have awakened the third eye and developed this psychic ability through meditation.
It is also important to acknowledge that for some, this ability can open naturally as a result of past positive actions, or what we call puñña (merit). We have discussed this in our previous teachings on the third eye meditation program, so we will not repeat those details here. Today, we will focus on a specific, powerful practice for those of you whose third eye is already open.

Entering the Sacred Chamber of Ruwanwelisaya Stupa
If you are someone whose third eye is awakened, you have the capacity to direct your consciousness to the great Ruwanwelisaya Stupa. In our very first teachings on this topic, we explained how to spiritually enter the inner relic chamber, known as the garbha. We described how to observe what is within, including the incredible creations of King Dutugemunu, placed there with powerful resolutions. By making a similar resolution, you can see these things for yourself.
When you direct your focus there, you may also see beings from other realms, from celestial worlds (deva lokas), other world systems, and even the higher Brahma worlds, as well as beings from the Naga world, who come to pay homage. This ability to witness such phenomena comes to those who have developed their psychic abilities, either through dedicated meditation in this life or due to the strength of past good kamma (intentional actions).
Inside this inner chamber lies a special reality. You know from history that a drona (a specific measure) of the Buddha’s sacred relics are enshrined there. It is also known that through the power of resolve, a radiant image of the Buddha, appearing as if alive, was manifested there.
For anyone with developed psychic abilities who directs their mind, it is possible to enter this chamber through the ‘western gate’ and see this for themselves. Once inside the garbha of the Ruwanwelisaya Stupa, we have taught that you can remain there in your mind-made body and continue your spiritual development through meditation.

The Practice: Meditating with Your Mind-Made Body
Today, my instruction is this: go to the inner chamber of the Ruwanwelisaya Stupa to meditate. For someone with an awakened third eye, you have the ability to send your non-physical body, which we call the manokāya (mind-made body), the kiranakāya (light body), or the astral body, into this sacred space. Send your consciousness inside, approach the place where the drona of sacred relics and the lifelike Buddha image reside, pay your respects, and then sit and meditate. You can see this all clearly with your third eye.
Go to this place and meditate. Cultivate your spiritual progress. From within this sacred space, you can make powerful resolutions, or what we call adhiṭṭhāna. But what should you resolve? You can make a daily resolution for your spiritual development to flourish. If you practice going there with your mind-made body every day, focus your thoughts on the growth of your spiritual energy. This is a primary and powerful use of this third eye meditation practice.

Using Resolve to Clear Obstacles and Help Others
From this sacred space, you also have the ability to address negative influences. If you feel you are affected by any kind of negative energy, psychic attack, or binding, what are sometimes called anavina, huniyam, or kodivina. or disturbances from non-human entities, you can work to dissolve them.
As a spiritual person developing your mental strength, you have practical experience of your own mind’s power. You trust your mind. From this place, make a firm, daily resolution for any such bonds to break, to be shattered and completely destroyed. Resolve for any non-human disturbances to depart permanently. With time and consistent practice, they will fade.
This connects to our teachings on resolving issues with non-human beings, where we introduced a meditation using the word “Gahajja” for those facing such specific problems. You can integrate that practice here. By making a powerful resolution from within a sacred place like the Ruwanwelisaya’s chamber, even while in your mind-made body, that intention becomes incredibly potent and begins to dismantle these negative forces gradually.
You can also extend this practice to others. If you wish to help another person with their spiritual development, you can make a resolution for them filled with mettā (loving-kindness), not with any attachment, greed, or desire. Focus on them with a pure heart and make the resolution a few times for their spiritual path to clear.

The Importance of Sustained Effort and Humility
A crucial point: when you are working to dismantle a binding or negative influence, whether for yourself or another, it requires sustained effort. From inside the chamber, near the sacred relics, you must hold your resolution continuously for at least half an hour to an hour.
Why? Because your mind, while powerful, is not yet completely purified. You are still in the process of reducing defilements (kilesas). Your mental energy is not yet as powerful as that of an Arahant (a fully enlightened being), an Anāgāmī (a non-returner), a Sakadāgāmī (a once-returner), or even someone on the path of Sotāpanna (stream-entry).
Therefore, you must combine your psychic ability with patience. Meditate for an hour, and within that time, hold the unwavering intention for the obstacle to be destroyed. Focus on its location and maintain your resolve from within the sacred chamber. The same applies when resolving for your own spiritual growth, hold the intention continuously for an extended period to empower it.
Do not give up after just a few tries. Meditate there to develop yourself. If you are practicing absorption states (jhāna), such as the sphere of infinite space, you can train from within that sacred space. The power of the Buddha’s own resolutions and those of the enlightened Arahants who have been there will support your efforts. You will receive their blessings. You can also practice radiating loving-kindness to all ten directions from this powerful location.

Understanding Variations in Psychic Perception
As we have taught before, when you meditate inside the chamber, you might perceive other yogis or spiritual practitioners meditating there as well. Some of you will see them, and some will not. This depends on the specific nature and clarity of your ability.
Why does one person with an awakened third eye see something that another with an awakened third eye does not? The reason lies in the influence of the five hindrances, or nīvaraṇa, in the mind:
- Kāmacchanda: Sensual desire
- Vyāpāda: Ill will or aversion
- Thīna-middha: Sloth and torpor (mental dullness)
- Uddhacca-kukkucca: Restlessness and worry
- Vicikicchā: Skeptical doubt
These, along with the other uncontrolled thoughts and defilements like greed and anger in your mind, act like static, distorting your perception. If your mind is not yet well-controlled, your vision will be affected. You must understand this and continue to purify your mind.

A Warning: Use This Practice for Spiritual, Not Worldly, Gain
While you are performing this third eye meditation, be careful not to turn this sacred space into a place for making purely worldly resolutions. While you can offer a blessing for someone’s worldly progress out of compassion, do not constantly use this powerful site to ask for success in business, exams, or other mundane affairs.
These are spiritually potent places. When you enter with your mind-made body, you are tapping into the resolutions of the Buddha and enlightened beings. If you go there and consistently make worldly requests, you may find that your spiritual progress declines or you face setbacks.
This practice is for spiritual development and for offering compassionate help to others. Its primary purpose should be to bless yourself and others on the spiritual path. However, there is an exception for healing. If someone is suffering from a severe illness that Western, Ayurvedic, or traditional medicine cannot cure, like a cancer patient, you can go to this space and make a strong, sustained resolution for their healing for half an hour or an hour. Then, observe if their condition improves.
We must also wisely understand that some conditions are the result of strong kamma, and the person may have to experience its consequences. In such cases, we must surrender to the law of kamma, recognizing that the illness is a result of their own past actions.

Guidance for Those Whose Third Eye Is Not Yet Awakened
For those who are new to these teachings, hearing this might be confusing; you might even think it sounds nonsensical. If you are new to our spiritual channel, I invite you to explore our teachings from the very beginning. We have provided a systematic path and organized our guidance to be followed in order. By following the practical steps, you can gain a proper understanding and develop your spiritual faculties yourself.
For those who have been practicing but feel discouraged, thinking, “Oh, my third eye hasn’t awakened yet, I can’t do this,” please do not underestimate yourself. Avoid falling into such a state of mind. We have provided other effective concentration meditation techniques (samatha), like the ‘To the Brahma World’ practice, that can help awaken the third eye. You can continue with those practices with determination.
Alternatively, if you wish, you can try a visualization exercise. You can imagine yourself inside the inner chamber of the Ruwanwelisaya Stupa and make the resolutions I have described. However, do not force yourself to believe that what you are seeing is real in the same way as someone with an awakened third eye.
Always maintain the awareness that you are creating this image in your mind, much like we daydream about the future. It is a mental creation. Even so, making resolutions from this imagined space may be successful for some, and for others, it may not. It is a different process from perceiving it directly. Nonetheless, it is a way you can engage with the practice and perhaps benefit from it as you continue your spiritual development.

Conclusion: A Tool for Your Spiritual Advancement
