Categories: Non-human Problems
May the blessings of the Triple Gem be with you all!
Today, we wish to share a new meditation method with all of you who have joined us. You may have seen the topic and are curious about what this practice entails. This is a special meditation, and it’s important to clarify from the beginning who it is for, and who should practice it. This particular method is not suitable for everyone.
The first thing to understand is that this is not a technique you will find in the Tipiṭaka, the Buddhist scriptures. It was not taught by the Lord Buddha, nor will you find it in the ancient commentaries or other books. You might be tempted to say this is not a Buddhist meditation, and you would be correct. However, it is not a meditation from any other religion either. It is something unique.
The practice we are introducing revolves around a specific word: “Gahajja.” This is what we call a universal word, something that was discovered by us, as spiritual monks, during the deep development of our own practice. Its purpose is very specific. This universal word is used to help those who are facing particular kinds of spiritual obstacles, such as the influence of non-human entities that prevent them from developing their meditation.

Is This Meditation Right for You?
This powerful word is especially beneficial for a select group of people facing distinct challenges:
- Individuals experiencing interference from what we call amanussa, or non-human beings, which actively disrupts their ability to meditate.
- Those who possess or are influenced by a varam, a kind of divine permission or connection and wish to release it to pursue a deeper spiritual path.
- People suffering from the effects of anavina kodivina, which can be understood as curses, black magic, or intentionally directed negative energy.
- Individuals who have spent significant time and money at devalas (shrines dedicated to deities) seeking solutions but have found no relief.
If you fall into one of these categories and have a sincere desire to practice meditation to overcome these issues, then this teaching is for you. We will keep this explanation concise, as we have offered many long and short teachings before, all aimed at helping you develop spiritually. So, let’s move forward.
It is vital that you do not try to find a meaning for the word “Gahajja.” Thinking about its definition is not necessary. Also, remember that this is a Samatha meditation, a practice for developing deep calm and concentration. It is not, in any way, a Vipassanā or insight meditation.

A Note on Criticism and the Law of Kamma
We mention these preliminary points because someone new to our teachings might find this strange or even nonsensical. We also know there are those who wait for opportunities to criticize and slander. To them, we offer this reflection: slandering those who teach the correct spiritual path has its own consequence, or kamma. The result is that your own spiritual development will be blocked.
No matter how many times you try to meditate in this life or future lives, your mind will not settle, and your practice will not grow until you ask for forgiveness from the person you have wronged. If that person is no longer living or has attained liberation, you must still make a sincere apology, even if only directed towards the direction where they once lived. This is why we have previously taught about the importance of asking for forgiveness from the Triple Gem if your meditation is not progressing.

Recognizing the Symptoms of Unseen Influences
How do you know if you are being affected by these spiritual obstacles? When you try to meditate, certain distinct signs may appear.
Many people who are influenced by a varam are told by shrine keepers, or kapuas, that they have a special power and should use it to tell fortunes or perform healings. We urge you not to be drawn down that path. You have the ability to release these attachments and progress spiritually.
When those affected by non-human entities, curses, or a varam begin to meditate, they often experience a powerful, unpleasant burning sensation in their body. It might feel like your body is on fire. This can manifest in the soles of the feet, the palms of the hands, or along the spine. This is very different from the subtle, pleasant warmth that can arise between the eyebrows during deep concentration, which is a sign of spiritual progress. The burning we are describing is intense and disruptive, making it almost impossible to continue meditating. It often appears in one specific location during your session.
This intense heat is a clear sign that an unseen force is resisting your spiritual efforts. It is not that these entities are intentionally “heating” you; rather, their influence manifests in our perception as heat. Think of how a magnifying glass focuses sunlight into a tiny point to burn paper, the sensation is that powerful. Many have abandoned their meditation practice because of this.
Other signs include:
- Physical Constriction: A feeling of your body being squeezed or tightened. The pressure can feel immense, similar to being deep underwater and unable to breathe, or like the pressure cuff a doctor uses to check your blood pressure.
- Mental Agitation: A sudden and overwhelming surge of lustful or hateful thoughts, instigated by these unseen influences. This can be caused by any type of non-human being, a yakka, yakkhini, preta, or preti (male and female spirits or ghosts) who resent your spiritual progress.
- Frightening Dreams: Being tormented by nightmares.
We share these things based on one hundred percent direct experience. If you experience these, you can be certain that one of these three influences is at play.

The Importance of Wisdom and Moderation
When you experience these things, you might realize you’ve been dealing with one of these issues for a long time. However, a word of caution: do not jump to conclusions. It is crucial to investigate for yourself. Do not attribute every little sensation to a non-human problem. Our teachings can help you differentiate between a true spiritual obstacle, a normal meditation experience, or a physical ailment.
Avoid extremism. Some people run to shrines or astrologers for every minor issue, becoming superstitious. Others are rigid materialists who dismiss these possibilities entirely. The wise path is in the middle. Be moderate. Use your mindfulness and intelligence to carefully discern what is truly happening. This is your personal responsibility.
A Step-by-Step Guide to the Gahajja Meditation Practice
So, how do you practice the Gahajja meditation? First, remember this practice is exclusively for those experiencing the problems we’ve described. If you do not have these issues, you do not need to do this.
The purpose of this practice is to remove these obstacles. We are not acquiring a varam; we are dispelling it. We are pushing away non-human entities and breaking the bonds of curses so that our meditation can flourish.
- Sit in your usual meditation posture. You can place one hand on top of the other in your lap, or rest your hands on your knees, with or without a mudra (a symbolic hand gesture).
- Make your customary resolutions or intentions (adhiṭṭhāna) for the session.
- Close your eyes and bring your full attention to the center of your forehead or the point between your eyebrows.
- Mentally repeat the word: “Gahajja.” Pause for a few seconds in stillness, and then repeat it again. Continue this repetition.
As you repeat the word, if you truly have one of these spiritual obstacles, the burning or other negative sensations will likely intensify. This is a critical moment. Do not stop. Many people foolishly stop at this point, thinking their problem is getting worse. This is like someone who stops meditating because their friends who don’t follow the five precepts start to drift away, this is a natural purification! You must have the determination to continue, thinking, “Even if this burning consumes me, even if I die, I will not stop.”

The Breakthrough: Signs of Success and Liberation
As you persist with the Gahajja meditation, repeating “Gahajja, Gahajja,” a change will occur. You will feel a profound shift.
The experience is like struggling to climb a steep mountain and finally reaching the top, where you can walk downhill with ease. A great sense of freedom will wash over you. You will notice:
- Your body feels light, as if a great weight has been lifted.
- Any physical aches and pains may ease or vanish completely.
- Instead of heat, you may feel a pleasant coolness spreading through parts of your body. This is similar to the sensation we’ve described in our teachings on Kundalini and cosmic energy when the energy awakens.
- Your mind, which was once agitated, will become deeply calm, focused, and unified.
You will definitely experience at least one, if not several, of these positive results. The power of this word is immense; do not take it lightly. When you practice the Gahajja meditation, non-human entities cannot bear it; they feel like they are burning and are forced to leave. A varam will begin to dissolve. The bonds of curses will break.
Consistency and Daily Application
Do not expect results in a single day. You must practice consistently, perhaps for a month, two, or three. While some may feel relief in a week or even a day, be prepared to continue until you are one hundred percent sure the issue is gone.
This meditation can also be used outside of formal sessions. If you are going about your daily tasks and suddenly feel the influence, a surge of fear, a physical pressure, or a sudden pain like a backache, stop for a moment. Close your eyes, focus on your forehead, and repeat “Gahajja,” either mentally or by whispering it. You will feel the influence recede or vanish. This can also serve as a diagnostic tool. If a pain disappears when you use the word, you can be certain its origin is not purely physical.
Remember, this path costs you nothing but your own effort. Many people spend vast sums of money at shrines, only to come to us later with nothing left. This practice is free. However, it only works for those with the patience to meditate. It is not for those seeking an instant fix.

Final Guidance: A Powerful Tool for Those in Need
While you are doing the Gahajja meditation, it is also beneficial to continue the four practices from our teaching on “Solutions for Non-Human Problems,” especially the practice of Mettā, or loving-kindness meditation, at a separate time.
Once your problem is fully resolved, you can stop the Gahajja meditation. You may also discontinue specific protective measures, like the chanting of the names from the Āṭānāṭiya Sutta or lighting lamps for deities like Gambhara Deviyo. However, you can continue beneficial practices like reciting protective chants (paritta), practicing Mettā, and developing mindfulness. You can then move on to other Samatha meditations we have taught, such as the Third Eye practice or the path to the Brahma worlds.
Again, we must emphasize: this practice is only for those with these specific problems. If you do not have these issues, please do not attempt this out of curiosity. There is no need for you to engage with this; your path is to continue with your regular meditation practices. We share this knowledge from a place of deep compassion, based entirely on our direct experiences, to help you develop your spiritual life. The word “Gahajja” is a universal word we received through spiritual development. When you experience the results, you will understand its power.
